“I enjoy coming up with creative ideas to make sure that we are meeting or exceeding our clients’ goals in every construction project,” says Stuart Broeren, President and Chief Executive Officer with Broeren Russo. Over 30 years ago, he and long-time friend John Russo decided to blend their talents and form what is now Broeren Russo Builders, Inc. Stuart is responsible for contracts, insurance, finance, bonding, risk management, marketing, owner negotiations, and labor relations.
“I like the idea that I get to be a part of the on-field team and not just a principal on the sidelines,” says John Russo, Executive Vice President with Broeren Russo. The two principals and their innovative team have been building some of the highest quality commercial buildings in Central Illinois for the last three decades. As Chief Operations Officer for Broeren Russo, John oversees the entire construction process from the initial stages of design and bid development to awarding subcontracts.
“There is nothing typical about a day at Broeren Russo – which is what makes it fun and interesting,” says, Jim Lopez, Chief Operations Officer. “Each phase of a project changes the day and there is always a new challenge.” As COO, Jim focuses on purchasing of contracts and products for a project, managing the schedule, working with subcontractors, handling finances and budgets, and supervising the overall details of a project.
“It’s really a great feeling to know I’ve earned a client’s trust,” notes Sky Sanborn, Vice President of Broeren Russo. “Just as much as finishing on-time and on budget, that relationship is important in being able to call a project successful.” As Vice President, Sky is responsible for the supervision of projects including scheduling, cost control, on-site management and owner & vendor relations.
“Our management team is diverse. Clients get the depth of knowledge from our experienced managers, and new and innovative ideas from the younger project managers/engineers,” says Michael Broeren. “There is great support for creative thinking and implementation.” Michael has a unique role within the company. He serves as Broeren Russo’s Vice President of Steel Operations through Prairie Steel Services, Inc., a division of Broeren Russo.
As Vice President/Controller at Broeren Russo, Karen Cooley gets to see the big picture of what is happening at Broeren Russo, how it all comes together, and the outcome of the company’s efforts. “It’s very rewarding to see the fruits of our hard work,” she notes. Karen’s responsibilities include reviewing all financial documents for accuracy, providing company financial statements, and overseeing the entire accounting department including an annual audit.
Chad Dalton knew he joined a great team when he came to Broeren Russo several years ago. “The craftsmanship and the management are real strengths of this company,” he said. As Vice President of Field Operations for Broeren Russo, Chad oversees manpower, tools and equipment on each of the projects where he has responsibilities. His priority is to make decisions that help the Project Manager, the Foremen on the job, and ultimately the client. Chad’s ability to understand the work at hand allows him to assign the right staff to complete the work on time and within budget.
